How to Find Books
The Library Catalog is Online!
To search for library materials, including books and videos, search the online catalog.
The books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System.
Most non-fiction books are arranged on the shelves in numerical order. A number is assigned to each book according to it's subject. This way, all the book on the same subject will be shelved together.
The main subject categories are as follows:

SOCIAL SCIENCE How people live together; sociology, politics, government, economics, education adn folklore. |

LANGUAGE Linguistics, history and development, composition and grammar, dictionaries and thesauri. |

|
SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS Astronomy, biology, physics, chemistry, anthropology, etc. |
|
600-699
|
APPLIED SCIENCE / TECHNOLOGY Engineering, medicine and mental health, agriculture, manufacturing and home economics. |

700-799
|
FINE ARTS AND RECREATION Art, music, photography, theatre, games, sports and magic. |

800-899
|
LITERATURE Poetry, plays, essays and literary criticism (does not include fiction) |

HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY Exploration and travel, history and geography of all countries. |
| B | BIOGRAPHY Some libraries include Biography in the 900's. Newton North uses a B to designate biographies and shelves them in alphabetical order by the subject's last name following the non-fiction section. |
