Science Journals and Scientific Studies

Most original studies (primary sources) published in scientific journals such as Nature, Science, or The New England Journal of Medicine are not available for free. Subscriptions for most science journals cost hundreds of dollars each. The good news is you can access full-text articles from many of them for free through libraries. College libraries offer the broadest range of scientific journals. Many of these subscriptions are also available through the NNHS Library Learning Commons:

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
Search or browse through hundreds of scientific journals. As of January 2006, includes 2000 journals; more are being added.
HighWire Press (Stanford University)
HighWire Press is a division of the Stanford University Libraries, which produces the online versions of high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly content. HighWire partners with scholarly societies, university presses and publishers to produce 71 of the 200 most-frequently-cited journals publishing in science. HighWire Press hosts the largest repository of free full-text life science articles in the world, with 1,490,430 free, full-text articles from 264 journals. Google Scholar
Search using the familiar Google interface to find scholarly articles and even chapters of books that are available for free online. Some results link directly to JStor. The Advanced Scholar Search feature allows you to narrow your search by discipline (for example, search only in Biology, Life Sciences, and Environmental Science)
